Sundra is an AI-powered platform making learning content more accessible for diverse workforces. We’re transforming the HR and L&D space by using AI to automatically caption, translate, and summarise training videos — helping companies make learning global and inclusive.
Backed by reputable investors, grants, and growing revenue, Sundra has strong runway and early traction — including well-known Icelandic companies as customers. While we’re remote-first with teammates across Iceland, the USA, Spain, the UK, and the Philippines, we’re now building our Core Team at our Reykjavík HQ to drive our next phase of growth.
The Opportunity
We’re seeking a visionary yet hands-on CTO to lead Sundra’s technology strategy, architecture, and team. You’ll guide a talented two-person engineering team (frontend and backend), define our technical roadmap, and ensure our platform scales with our growth.
This is a rare chance to shape the technical and cultural foundation of a promising startup — with a strong base already built and the runway to scale internationally.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead Our Tech Strategy: Define and communicate the long-term technology plan for Sundra, ensuring it perfectly matches our overall business goals.
- Architectural Oversight: Design and oversee the architecture of our core platform/product, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
- Team Building & Management: Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of developers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
- Product Development: Oversee all stages of product creation, starting from concept, through development, to launch and ongoing enhancement. You’ll work closely with the designer, CEO, and all relevant stakeholders to bring our vision to life.
- Technology Stack Ownership: Make critical decisions regarding technology stack choices, tools, and best practices.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure a high standard of data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
- Build code: We’re a startup not a large fancy enterprise, you’ll also have to be willing to roll up your sleeves and get sh*t done!
You Might Be a Fit If You…
- Have 3–5+ years in a leadership role over developers (Lead developer or CTO at an early-stage startup).
- Can design and run effective team processes, ensuring clarity, focus, and progress, whatever the framework.
- Feel equally comfortable writing code and leading a team.
- Have strong full-stack chops (bonus for our stack).
- Are product-minded, you think deeply about why it should be built, who it’s for, and what outcome it should create.
- Communicate clearly, make decisions with data and take ownership.
- Can articulate technical vision to teammates, customers, and investors alike.
- You understand startups, you know they are a roller coaster ride and you are up for the challenge.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with video processing or AI-powered language tools (e.g. translation, transcription, or summarisation).
- Prior work with AWS at scale, cost optimisation, and security best practices.
- Exposure to enterprise requirements (SSO/SAML, SOC2, GDPR).
